Living on the RA estate is great, reminds me a bit like a university campus
The people are generally really nice, although you could make a lot of middle class jokes about them not going outside the green zone.
I can’t think of many other places in London where you are so close to the river in central London and yet have lots of space around you.
Getting into work in central London is a pleasant experience on the boat, much more civilised that the train when it’s packed.
The food and drink options are great on the estate and if your are prepared to venture outside there are some great local bars and restaurants in Greater Woolwich.
It’s also an amazing place to bring up small children. The roads are quiet on the estate and you have a number excellent childcare options with Zeeba Daycare Centre and Under One Roof. I also understand the primary schools have good ratings.
I’d also like to add I’m quite involved in the Royal Arsenal Rugby club which is a great outlet to meet new residents and energize with their training on the Tag Team, keeping fit.
I am so glad we moved here and cannot think of a better place to live in London.

Though I’ve only been with the club for 4 months, I eagerly find myself our in-house coach Sundays, at the moment. With 8 years of Rugby Union experience, I focus on fun and progressive sessions to develop our skills including footwork, passing, tag tackling, and teamwork. There is a match afterwards (11am) so you can put what’s been practiced into action!
The club is made of a plethora of different characters: fathers, mothers, couples, and people that can barely handle their own laundry; competitive athletes & fair weather players; die hard dependables & committed members volunteering around work constraints.
The Royal Arsenal socialites and new residents to the surrounding area obviously have a thirst for this activity, which builds friendships, as the club is growing organically every month.
They unite under the identity of the team and work together on the pitch. When we win we celebrate, and when we lose we celebrate what went well.
If you have a bit of spare time here or there, want to keep ahold of your fitness, and are open to adding a few new mates to your life male or female, then Royal Arsenal Tag Rugby is for you. You don’t need to know the rules: we’ll teach you and maybe even help you identify a talent in the process!
